چکیده

In video telephone scenes to be transmitted at low data rates non–diffuse scene illumination has to be expected. In this contribution, non–diffuse scene illumination and 3D object motion is estimated concurrently from a monocular image sequence. Image analysis uses the source model ”3D rigid moving objects with non–diffuse illumination”. The illumination is modeled by a distant point light source and ambient light. Experimental results of estimating and compensating non–diffuse scene illumination and 3D object motion using real and artificially animated image sequences are given. For a real image sequence, a prediction gain of about 0.6 dB can be stated compared to the source model ”3D rigid moving objects with diffuse illumination”.

An Illumination Estimation Method for 3D–Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding

In video telephone scenes to be transmitted at low data rates, non–diffuse illumination has to be expected. Therefore, in this work the scene illumination is automatically estimated from a monocular image sequence in addition to shape and motion of moving objects. Image analysis uses the source model ”moving rigid 3D objects with nonuniform local illumination”. The irradiance is modelled by a d...

Performance Analysis of Point Light Source Estimation

In this paper, the performance of point light source parameter estimation from two video images is analyzed in terms of estimation theory. The illumination parameters are the intensity and direction of a single distant point light source in presence of ambient light. Known illumination estimation methods evaluate temporal changing shading on the surface of rotating objects in two video images. ...

Global–Shape from Motion and Shading for 3D–Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding

In OBASC based on the source model ”moving textured rigid 3D objects with non–diffuse illumination” the shape of model objects describing real objects is estimated from the silhouettes of the real objects assuming an ellipsoid–like shape. In this paper, the image analysis is extended by a global shape estimation method evaluating directly the image signal. By one global shape parameter, the dep...

3D Motion Estimation of Articulated Objects for Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding (OBASC)

An algorithm for motion estimation of articulated 3D objects for object–based analysis–synthesis coding (OBASC) is presented. For motion estimation an articulated object is first decomposed automatically into flexibly connected object– components. Each rigid 3D object–component is assumed to be connected to the object by spherical joints. Then, the 3D motion of the largest object–component is e...

Joint position estimation for object-based analysis-synthesis coding

An object–based analysis–synthesis coder for coding moving images at low data rates is investigated. The coder is based on the source model of articulated three–dimensional objects. This model describes the real objects by means of model objects defined by shape, motion and color parameters. The model objects may be articulated, i.e. they consist of several rigid object components linked to eac...
